It was one of those weeks. All geared up for my first night of my new class. Books, check. Syllabus downloaded, check. Assignment done...well, no but I emailed my professor because the syllabus wasn't clear. No biggie, I'll take a mulligan on that one. Arrived to class on Wednesday promptly seven minutes before 6pm, I'm early! Nice! Until.....I found out my class was on Tuesday. [insert expletives here] Really Tawnya, GRAD school and you're this unorganized? Ugh. So not cool.Thank goodness my professor is a saint and allowed me into the class the following Tuesday. But, now I'm a week behind. Again, so not cool.
Then the next day he came into my office and shut the door. Not unusual with the scope of my position. But this time he just sat down and looked at me. Methodical. Silent. (Crap, I'm fired...I suck....here we go again...living in pity in the couch.) Nope, instead he just said, "Breath." I said, "What?" He said, "Slow down, and breath. You are going a million miles a minute...you need to step back, take a breath and slow the pace." I laughed...HA! Slow the pace? Are you kidding me? I reminded him of the incessant deadlines HE puts on me, the workload, the strategic plan...how can I slow down? Then it hit me. I said, "You know what, you are so right. I think my GFI popped!" [insert strange look from boss here] I said, "Seriously, I am being pulled in so many directions - it's like all the appliances are plugged in and demanding a full supply of power. You hit the reset button, so thank you." He laughed - typical. And I sat back in my chair and closed my eyes...to breath. I realized I had to unplug all the appliances for one tiny second to allow myself to "reset" - and very methodically plug them back in one by one...and not allow the power to drain.
So when your GFI pops and you end up going to school on the wrong night, missing an event or generally just feeling like you can't get it together....sit back, close your eyes and unplug all your appliances. Reset your GFI and slow down the power drain!
